Our bags are tops!

Ragbags are unique bags made from pre-loved fashion tops. We source tops and singlets from charity shops and through donations. Each garment is carefully sewn together and transformed into a bag. Ragbags come in all shapes and sizes: beach bags, shopping bags, evening bags and more.

For a top to become a Ragbag it has to meet our strict set of criteria.

Ragbag Criteria

The selection process

A Ragbag is created from an individually selected top that has had a previous owner. The idea is to REUSE, so a Ragbag is not made from new material. Tops are stitched and tagged but not cut, so very little waste is generated.
Garments selected to become Ragbags must:

be clean and in good condition,
have the same neckline front & back,
wide or thin straps,
plain or wrap-around pattern (no front image),
interesting fabric or other unique feature,
no zips, buttons, or obvious darts.

The Top 100

Get one while you can

The Top 100 is a growing collection of one hundred numbered bags starting from a simple Number 1 to a very special Number 100. Each bag is unique and listed permanently on the site. To view the Top 100 click on the 'BAGS' tab above.

The Ragbag 'sweatshop' is a tin shed in the rainforests of tropical Queensland, Australia, where we sew, tag, and photograph each bag.

Ragbag Origins

Reuse and Recycle

The idea of transforming a top into a bag was realised while creating an art installation from discarded materials. We thought larger Ragbags would be good alternatives to nylon/canvas grocery bags which are mass-produced and generally made from new materials. A Ragbag on the other hand recycles existing material which makes it a better choice for the eco-conscious.

Ragbags are not just shopping bags though. There are beach bags, work bags, evening bags and more.

Become part of the Collection

We all have clothing in our wardrobe that we no longer wear. Send us an item from your wardrobe, a party top or floral vest. Your top can be any size but must be in good condition and meet our criteria. Should your garment be accepted your top will become part of the Ragbag collection.
